FCB Nyasa Big Bullets National Supporters Committee chairperson Stone Mwamadi has resigned from his position, claiming there was a deliberate plot to force him out of the club.
In his resignation, Mwamadi has also urged the club’s owners, Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC), to honour commitments made when they took over the club from the Trustees in 2017.
Mwamadi, who was serving an indefinite suspension over alleged involvement in the intimidation of suspended Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general George Kasakula, described the suspension as a scapegoat used to justify his removal.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mwamadi said he was never given an opportunity to defend himself.
“Since I was suspended, no one has called me to hear my side of the story. What is even more painful is that I learnt about my suspension through social media,” he said.
“But it did not come as a surprise because for a long time they had been looking for a way to remove me.”
He further alleged that the club leadership already had a preferred candidate they intended to install as head of the supporters committee.
In a resignation letter addressed to club president Konrad Buckle and copied to acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga, Mwamadi reminded the club of the assurances given to supporters during the ownership transition to NMC.
“There are notable events that we boldly took as supporters, without fear or favour, when you, Mr President, approached me and my colleagues regarding your desire to take over the club from the Trustees to NMC,” reads part of the letter.
According to Mwamadi, supporters agreed to the takeover following promises that NMC would construct a stadium, purchase a team bus, build regional clubhouses, clear outstanding debts and improve players’ welfare.
“The sad part is that I am leaving having failed to convince you to fulfil the above promises despite numerous reminders, yet this agreement was valid during the first five years of the takeover between 2017 and 2022,” he wrote.
With the current football season nearing its end, Mwamadi called on the club’s leadership to begin honouring the pledges made nearly a decade ago, stressing that a club’s success should not only be measured by trophies but also by infrastructural development.
Despite his grievances, Mwamadi expressed gratitude to Buckle for the opportunity to serve the club.
“You gave me the chance to serve as one of your board members, and I do not take that for granted,” he said.
Efforts to obtain a response from Buckle proved futile as he was not available for comment, while Chigoga said he could not comment on the matter as he had not yet seen the resignation letter.
