MNCS Releases Final Nominees for 2025 Malawi Sports Awards

 The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has released the final list of nominees for the 2025 Malawi Sports Awards, which are scheduled to take place on 27 February 2026 in Salima.

Malawi Sports Awards Committee chairperson Limbani Matola has confirmed that the Hall of Fame category is the only category yet to produce its final three nominees, after earlier submissions failed to meet the required standards set by the committee.

The list of nominees features several high-profile names from across the sporting landscape, including Scorchers deadly forward Temwa Chawinga, who is competing in the Sportswoman of the Year category following her impressive performances.






In the Junior Female Athlete of the Year category, Amanda Kondowe, Lucy Mphande of Taekwondo and Rachael Jailos from the Chess Association have been nominated. The Junior Male Athlete of the Year nominees are Nathan Chisale of Athletics, footballer Mwisho Mhango and David Masiye.

The National Team of the Year category will see the Malawi men’s football team that competed at the Region Five Games going head-to-head with the karate team from the same competition. In the Female Sportsperson of the Year – Disability category, Nancy Valani, Sandra Mughogho and Tiyanjane Henry have earned nominations, while Blessings Chimbayo and Nathan Maseko are the contenders in the Male Sportsperson of the Year – Disability category.

Sportswoman of the Year nominees include Temwa Chawinga, Enifa Kaponda from athletics and footballer Faith Chimzimu. Competing for the Sportsman of the Year award are pool player Griffin Stanford, Master Josephy Mwale and Kephas Kasten.

The Coach of the Year award will be contested by John Mwathiwa and Isaac Kumwenda. In the Sports Association of the Year category, the Malawi Paralympic Committee, the Esports Association and the Chess Association of Malawi have been shortlisted.

For Sports Administrator of the Year, the nominees are Mpilo Mizere, James Chiutsi and Viveck Ganessan. The Best Executed Sports Programme of the Year category includes the Before and After Sports Programme for para-athletes, Chess in Schools and the Special Olympics initiative.

The Technical Official of the Year nominees are Gilton Mkumbwa, Henry Amos and Godfrey Mkhalananga. In sports journalism, the Print category features Joy Ndovie, Solomon Manda and Raymond Siyaya, while the Electronic category includes Bright Kanyama, Frank Kandu and Norbert Jameson.

The Malawi Sports Awards aim to recognise and celebrate excellence across all sporting disciplines, honouring athletes, officials, administrators and journalists who have contributed significantly to the growth and development of sport in Malawi.
