Liverpool Begin Search for New Manager as Arne Slot Departs

Arne Slot  has been sacked by Liverpool after underwhelming season

Liverpool have announced the immediate departure of head coach Arne Slot, bringing an end to a two-year spell that included Premier League glory and consistent Champions League qualification.

The club confirmed on Saturday that the process of appointing a new manager is already under way, with ownership believing a change in direction is necessary for the team's continued progress.

Slot arrived at Anfield in June 2024 and made an immediate impact by guiding Liverpool to their 20th English league title in his debut season. The Dutch coach was named LMA Manager of the Year after leading the Reds to domestic success while also reaching the Carabao Cup final and the Champions League last 16.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Liverpool secured Champions League football for a second consecutive season and advanced to the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition. Despite those achievements, the club's hierarchy decided that a fresh approach would better serve Liverpool's long-term ambitions.

In a statement, Liverpool's owners praised Slot's leadership, professionalism and commitment, describing him as a coach who embraced responsibility and helped guide the club through both sporting challenges and difficult moments off the pitch.

They highlighted his role in delivering the club's landmark 20th league championship and his leadership during the period following the  Tragic death of Diogo Jota, emphasizing the compassion he showed during that time.

While acknowledging the difficulty of the decision, Liverpool's ownership stressed that the move should not be viewed as a reflection of Slot's abilities. Instead, they described it as a strategic decision aimed at ensuring the team continues to evolve.

Slot leaves Anfield with a Premier League winners' medal and a place in Liverpool history as the manager who restored the club to the summit of English football. The club says he and his family will always be welcome back at Anfield.

Attention now turns to who will become the next manager of Liverpool FC as the Reds prepare for a new chapter.
