Amad Diallo Inspires Ivory Coast to Stunning Comeback Win Over France

Amad Diallo decisive goal gave Ivory coast surprising win over France

Ivory Coast sent a strong message ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to defeat tournament favourites France 2-1 in an international friendly in Nantes on Thursday.

France appeared to be in control after young star Rayan Cherki opened the scoring with an impressive first-half strike. However, the Elephants produced a spirited second-half performance to turn the match on its head.

Defender Guela Doue levelled the scores before Amad Diallo netted the winning goal, securing a memorable victory for the African side.

The result highlights Ivory Coast's growing confidence ahead of the World Cup and demonstrates their ability to compete with the world's elite nations. Their pace, intensity and attacking threat proved too much for France after the break.

While France fielded an experimental lineup and made several substitutions, the defeat exposed vulnerabilities that coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged after the match. He admitted his side lost control in the second half and described the result as a timely reminder ahead of the tournament.

French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and defender Lucas Hernandez insisted there was no need for panic, stressing that the team remains focused on its preparations for the World Cup.

For Ivory Coast, however, the victory serves as a major confidence boost and a statement of intent as they prepare to challenge some of football's biggest nations on the global stage. France, meanwhile, will look to use the defeat as a learning experience before opening their World Cup campaign against Senegal on June 16.
